Peacemakers Gathering

19 June, 2026

In June, 2026, the Toronto Peace Academy convened an interdisciplinary gathering of peacemakers at the Asia Pacific Peace Museum to tour the Museum and engage in dialogue on the role of peace in our work and make connections across disciplines. The gathering brought together students, staff, and faculty from University of Toronto's Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, Department of East Asian Studies, and Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, as well as University of Waterloo's Peace and Conflict Studies Department, along with faith leaders from Toronto Chinese Mennonite Church and Toronto United Mennonite Church.

We are grateful to the staff at the Asia Pacific Peace Museum for their hospitality and the generosity of the City Seminary of New York's Ministry in the City Hub whose funding made this gathering possible.

Participants' favourite element about the gathering:

”Chatting over lunch and learning about what other people were working on, experiences they had—common threads despite different backgrounds or professions.”

”The museum guides were great!”

”Being able to learn and see so many people open to learning all experiencing this together. It was also good to see so much understanding and empathy in how the museum has been organized and the displays curated.”

”The presentations by the museum staff and all the materials at the museum. They are well crafted.”
