Hearts at Peace:
Emerging Adults Retreat
From June 5th to 6th, 2026, Toronto Peace Academy held it's first Hearts at Peace retreat for emerging adults who are university-aged or early career professionals. Guided by excerpts from the writings of Martin Buber and writings from the Christian mystic tradition, participants reflected on how our view of humanity affects our heart’s posture toward ourselves and others. Participants shared and listened to the personal stories of our lives and explored how our way of being impacts our relationships with others. Through dialogue, breakouts, and activities, participants explored how a pure heart, free of the motivation to use others as objects or to get rid of others as obstacles, allows us to enter into encounters of love.

Matching Game
Below is one of the activities from the retreat. Many Chinese words are made up of compounds of two or three characters. There are many words that are made by combining a character with the character for "heart" [心]. In the activity below, you can draw connections from the characters on the left to the heart characters on the right to make the words that have their English definitions beside them. See how many matches you can make!
